Art as Activism: a Playback Theater Workshop

January 26, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Join us for a workshop experience with Emily Bartlett of b.hive theatre as she leads us through playback theatre experience! This is open to all people, all experiences, artists or not. A suggested donation of $10 is requested, but not required.

What is playback theatre?

Playback Theatre is a story-based improvisational theatre that builds connection, dialogue, and change. Volunteers from the audience tell personal stories during a performance, then watch as trained actors and musicians create theatre on the spot. Playback theatre takes place in theatres, schools, migrant labor camps, conferences, and more, in about 60 countries. Playback theatre focuses on the stories that connect us, or as the creators of playback say, the red thread that connects us all. It has been used for conflict management and resolution, political problem solving, and showcasing stories that may not normally be told.
